STEAM Powered Robots
Robot Day is a fast-growing, volunteer-led celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) that explores all things robotic and is aimed at everyone from toddlers to academics. The event featured in this video is the inaugural Robot Day Coventry, which took place on 09 March 2019 and attracted over 5500 visitors. Building on the success of previous events in Derby, the Coventry event was facilitated by 150 volunteers, and inspired people of all generations with a host of interactive activities, displays, presentations and performances.
Engineering is inherently creative and the value of the arts to the discipline has often been overlooked. STEAM emphasises integration of fields that were traditionally kept separate and keeping an open mind to the arts when approaching engineering & technology. Robot Day is a fantastic way of bringing all of that to life. The event shows how technology and the arts interact to play a major part in our everyday lives with STEM inspiring the arts and the arts informing STEM in a symbiotic relationship. The partnerships developed in Coventry give us a powerful way to showcase the interplay of the various disciplines and show how a holistic, integrated approach to engineering benefits society.
Integrating science, technology, engineering and maths with the arts through STEAM initiatives is an incredibly successful way to reach audiences that might otherwise not consider or understand how the STEM subjects shape the world around us. Robot Day embraces culture, artistry, invention, innovation and design to inspire a new generation of creative innovators.
